This is very simple and economic direct action hand pump that I drew during his stay in South America. Pipes and fittings in PVC, rubber inner tube, a bottle cap Coca-Cola, stainless steel screws and copper - is completely made of materials that did not corrode. There are no seals on the piston for wear, only a slit ring, but that assumes that a simple filter can be used under the foot valve to keep out the sand. I'm doing is filtering out a length of PVC pipe perforated with manyHoles, then wrap it up with one or two rounds of plastic woven bag lining and some yarn or string to hold it. I was able to sell the kit to make the pump, including the filter, which should (but requires less length of PVC pipe for water to reach each) for only $ 10 and I know that some at least, are still in use after more than three years daily use.
